📌 WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
It's a completely fair question: why pay before you even have a visa, when some agents say “pay only after approval”? This blog gives the honest answer — what your money actually pays for and when, why the work happens long before the visa, and how to tell a real fee structure from a risky one.
Let's take the suspicion head-on, because it's a sensible one. If a consultancy asks you to pay before your visa is approved, your guard should go up — that instinct is healthy. So rather than dismiss it, here's the honest reasoning behind how genuine Ausbildung fees work, and why “pay only after the visa” often isn't the safer deal it appears to be.
Here's what many families don't realise. In an Ausbildung, the visa is one of the last steps, not the first. Before you ever reach it, the heaviest lifting has already been done: 10–12 months of German language training from A1 to B2, document preparation, and — the hardest part — matching you to a real German employer who issues your Conditional Offer Letter. That's months of teaching, staff time and partner work delivered to you long before any visa stage. Someone has to fund that work as it happens, which is why a genuine programme is paid in stages along the way.
JSJ's fee isn't a single upfront lump — it's released in milestones tied to value you've already received. You pay as you progress, not on blind faith.
| Milestone | What you've received by this point | Why paying here makes sense |
|---|---|---|
| At registration | Onboarding, counselling and your seat in the training programme | A small starting commitment to begin |
| After you clear A1 | Months of structured German training, with A1 officially certified | You've received real teaching and proven progress |
| After your Conditional Offer Letter | A genuine offer from a German employer, secured via Destination Germany | The hardest, highest-value step is done |
Look at the logic: by the time the largest instalment is due, you're holding a real employer's offer letter. You aren't paying for a promise — you're paying for outcomes you can see.
Sometimes it's a legitimate model — but very often, when you look closely, one of these is true:
None of this means every “pay-after” offer is dishonest. It means the right question isn't “when do I pay?” — it's “what am I paying for, and is the language training included?”
We won't soften this. The programme fee is non-refundable, and we tell you so before you pay a rupee. The reason is straightforward and fair: the training and services are genuinely delivered to you along the way — real months of teaching, real employer matching. You're paying for work that actually happens, not for a guaranteed outcome that no honest consultancy can promise. A company that pretends otherwise, or dangles a “full refund if no visa,” is often the one to be most careful with.
⚠️ TURN THE QUESTION AROUND
Instead of “Why do you charge before the visa?” ask any consultancy: “Is full A1–B2 language training included in this fee, or billed separately?” and “What exactly do I get at each stage?” Their answers tell you far more about value than the timing of payment ever will.
Paying in stages before the visa isn't a red flag in itself — it reflects the simple reality that the real work, especially your language training, happens long before the visa does. What matters is that each payment is tied to value you've actually received, that the training is genuinely included, and that the company is transparent about its non-refundable policy from the start. Judge a consultancy on those, not on a comforting “pay later” slogan. As always, no one can promise a visa — but you can insist on knowing exactly what you're paying for, and when.
