Settle Abroad with Jet Set Jobs
Let us be fair before we compare. For short-term earning and saving, the Gulf is hard to beat. Salaries in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar are tax-free, employers often provide free housing and transport plus an annual flight home, and nurses commonly save 40โ60% of their income. It is also the fastest route - often 3โ6 months to deploy - and it needs no foreign language. If your single goal is to save a large sum in three to five years, the Gulf deserves serious respect.
Yes, Gulf salaries are genuinely tax-free. But tax-free is only half the sentence. In most Gulf roles there is no permanent residency, no path to citizenship, and no long-term pension you keep. Contracts are typically two years, tied to one employer through sponsorship, and many are single-status - meaning you often cannot easily bring your family. Eventually, you are expected to leave. Tax-free is a wonderful deal for a few years of saving; it is not, by design, a foundation for a permanent life abroad.
| Factor | The Gulf (UAE / Saudi / Qatar) | Germany |
|---|---|---|
| Income tax | None | Yes - but it funds real benefits |
| Take-home cash | Higher short-term, tax-free | Lower; roughly โฌ2,200โ2,500 net/month |
| Housing | Often free or an allowance | You pay rent yourself |
| Short-term savings | Very high (40โ60%) | Moderate |
| Family | Often single-status; hard to bring | Family reunification allowed |
| Permanent residency | No | Yes - around 3 years |
| Citizenship | No | Possible - around 5 years |
| Job security | Contract, tied to employer | Permanent and legally protected |
This is the heart of the honest comparison. In the Gulf you are, and remain, a guest worker - welcomed, well paid, but temporary. In Germany you become a resident, then, if you choose, a citizen. That difference brings things the Gulf simply is not built to offer: the right to settle permanently, to bring and raise your family, free schooling for your children, a pension and social safety net you keep, and freedom to live and work across the EU. The Gulf pays you more now; Germany lets you build a future that stays yours.
Honestly, it depends on your goal, and both answers are respectable. If you want to earn and save hard for a few years and return to India, the Gulf is excellent and faster. If you want to build a permanent life abroad - settle, bring your family, and give your children a future in Europe - Germany is built for exactly that. Some nurses even do the Gulf first to save, then move to Germany to settle. There is no shame in either path; there is only the path that fits your plan.
