📌 WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
What actually gets returned to you if a visa is refused and the big difference between your block account and the programme fee, how the JSJ refund policy really works in plain language with no false promises, and how to reduce the risk of rejection in the first place.
The fear behind this question is real: “What if I do everything, and the visa still gets rejected?” It's a sensible thing to ask before committing money. Here's the honest context: German training visas have a strong approval record when the application is genuine, the documents are consistent, and the German is real. Outright rejections are the exception, not the rule - but they do happen, so you deserve a straight answer about what it means for your money.
Most confusion here comes from treating ‘my money’ as one lump. It isn't. There are two very different pools, and they behave very differently if a visa is refused:
| Your money | What happens if the visa is rejected |
|---|---|
| Block account (Sperrkonto) | Your own funds - around €11,904 for a standard visa, often less for Ausbildung as your stipend counts toward living costs. If the visa is refused, the provider returns this to you (minus a small setup fee). It was never a payment to JSJ. |
| JSJ programme fee | Paid in milestones for services already delivered (German training, profile, interview prep). This follows the Candidate Undertaking - explained below. |
So the single biggest sum in your journey - the block account - is your own money and comes back to you if the visa doesn't come through. That alone should ease much of the worry.
Now the honest part about the programme fee. It is milestone-based and largely tied to work you have already received - your German training toward B2, your profile, your interview preparation. Like most professional services, fees for work already delivered are not refundable, and a visa refusal does not change that. We say this plainly rather than dangling a refund we can't honestly offer. There are two specific situations where a refund does apply, and both are written into your Candidate Undertaking before you pay anything:
Outside those two windows, the fee follows the milestone you've reached. The genuine upside of that milestone structure is that you never paid the full amount upfront - so your exposure at any point stays limited and transparent.
It's worth being clear about this, because some consultancies do make that promise. The real work - 10–12 months of German training and preparation - is delivered long before the visa stage. A company that promises ‘full refund on rejection’ is usually either building that risk into a higher price elsewhere, or making a promise it can't actually keep. An honest milestone model protects you differently: by never taking everything upfront in the first place.
The best refund is the visa you don't get rejected. Most refusals trace back to avoidable issues, and this is exactly where guidance matters:
We guide you through each of these, precisely so your application is as strong as it can be before it ever reaches the embassy.
⚠️ THE HONEST BOTTOM LINE
No agency - us included - controls the embassy's decision, and no one can guarantee a visa. What we can do is prepare a genuine, strong application, keep your block account (your own money) safe and refundable, and be transparent about the programme fee through a milestone model that limits your exposure. Read your Candidate Undertaking carefully; everything above is spelled out in it before you pay.
If my visa is rejected, do I get my block account money back?
Yes. The block account is your own money, held by a provider, not a payment to Jet Set Jobs. On a visa refusal, the provider returns it to you (minus a small setup fee), usually within a few weeks, once you share the official rejection letter and your bank details.
Do I get the JSJ programme fee back?
It depends on the stage, and it's set out in your Candidate Undertaking. Fees for services already delivered aren't refundable; the two exceptions are the pre-onboarding cooling-off window and non-delivery on our side. Because the fee is milestone-based, you won't have paid the full amount upfront in any case.
Can you guarantee my visa won't be rejected?
No - and please be cautious with anyone who says they can. No one controls an embassy's decision. What we control is the strength and honesty of your application, which is where the real difference is made.
