FAQ — Everything Indian Nurses Ask About Working in Germany
🎯 In one place — the 25 most common questions Indian nurses ask about the Germany nursing journey. Clear, honest, complete answers. No jargon, no vague promises.
After working with hundreds of nurses on their Germany journey, we have heard the same questions again and again. This FAQ collects the 25 most commonly asked — organised by topic — so you have one reliable reference for everything you want to know.
Language
Q1 Do I really need B2 German to work in Germany as a nurse?
Yes — B2 German is a legal and practical requirement for nursing employment in Germany. Hospitals and care homes will not hire a nurse without a recognised B2 certificate (TELC or Goethe). It is also essential for daily clinical communication — patient interactions, doctor rounds, documentation, and handovers are all conducted in German.
Q2 How long does it take to reach B2 from zero?
For most Indian nurses starting from no prior German knowledge: 10–12 months of structured daily classroom training. At Jet Set Jobs, our programme runs Monday to Friday, 3 hours per day, from A1 through to B2 — approximately 48 weeks in total.
Q3 Is TELC better than Goethe for nurses going to Germany?
Both are equally accepted by German employers and recognition authorities. TELC combines Reading, Writing, and Listening into one 60% overall score — making it slightly more forgiving if one skill is weaker. Goethe requires each component to be passed separately. Most JSJ candidates sit the TELC B2 exam.
Q4 What if I fail the B2 exam?
You can retake it — there is no limit on attempts. TELC and Goethe exams are held multiple times per year. At Jet Set Jobs, we conduct regular mock tests from Month 11 onwards so candidates are fully prepared before their first official attempt.
Q5 Do I need to know German before joining Jet Set Jobs?
No — we train from absolute beginner level (A1). No prior German knowledge is required. We have successfully trained nurses who had never studied German before.
Qualification & Eligibility
Q6 I have a GNM — am I eligible for Germany?
Yes. GNM is the most common qualification among our candidates. Most GNM nurses go through a paid adaptation period (6–12 months) in Germany before receiving full recognition — during which they work and earn. This is not a setback; it is your first months of salaried employment in Germany.
Q7 I am 38 years old — is it too late to go to Germany?
No. German placements are realistic for nurses up to approximately 40–45 years of age. The §16d visa has no strict upper age limit, though most employers prefer candidates under 40. If you are 35–40 and committed, the window is still open — but start now rather than waiting.
Q8 I am a fresher with no experience — can I still go?
Yes — many German employers and recruitment partners accept fresh GNM and BSc graduates. Some prefer experienced nurses for certain roles. At Jet Set Jobs, we source both fresher and experienced candidate profiles depending on employer requirements.
Q9 My State Nursing Council registration has expired — is that a problem?
Yes — an expired SNC registration must be renewed before you begin the apostille and Germany application process. German authorities require a current, valid SNC certificate. Renewal typically takes 4–8 weeks in most states. Do this immediately.
Financial Model
Q10 How much does it cost to go to Germany through Jet Set Jobs?
The only financial obligation for the candidate is a refundable security deposit of ₹75,000, paid in three instalments — at enrolment, at issuance of the conditional offer letter, and at commencement of classes. This deposit is returned in full once you are placed in Germany or Austria and we receive our placement fee from the employer. No additional recruitment fees are charged to candidates.
Q11 Why do you charge a deposit if you say it is not a fee?
The deposit serves one purpose: to confirm that the candidate is genuinely committed to completing the programme and travelling to Germany. Language training over 10–12 months requires consistent attendance and effort. The deposit creates mutual accountability. It is returned to you in full — it never becomes our revenue.
Q12 Who pays Jet Set Jobs for the placement?
The German or Austrian employer pays us a placement fee once a candidate is successfully placed. Our entire business model depends on placements succeeding — which means our incentives are fully aligned with yours.
Recognition and Visa
Q13 How long does the recognition process take?
The Berufsanerkennung decision from the German state authority typically takes 3–6 months after a complete application is submitted. If an adaptation period is required (most common for GNM graduates), add another 6–12 months — during which you are working in Germany at full salary.
Q14 Can I go to Germany before my recognition is complete?
Yes — the §16d Recognition Visa allows you to travel to Germany and begin working while recognition is in progress. You do not need to wait in India for full recognition. Most JSJ candidates travel on this visa.
Q15 How long does the German visa take?
Visa processing after submission at the Embassy typically takes 4–8 weeks. Book your Embassy appointment the same week you receive your job offer — slots fill up 4–6 weeks in advance in New Delhi.
Q16 Does my family come with me or can they join later?
Family reunification happens after you are established in Germany — typically 6–12 months after arrival. Your spouse needs a Goethe A1 certificate before their visa can be granted. Children under 16 can join without any language requirement. Plan your spouse's A1 training now, even before you leave India.
Salary and Life
Q17 What will I earn in Germany as a nurse?
During the recognition phase (first 6–18 months): €2,800–€3,000 gross per month. After full recognition: €3,300–€3,500 gross per month. Night shift and weekend allowances add €200–€500 on top. Net take-home after German taxes is approximately €1,900–€2,300 per month depending on your tax class.
Q18 How much can I save each month?
Monthly savings depend heavily on where you live. Nurses in smaller towns and care homes — where rent is €300–€500 for a room — typically save ₹80,000–₹1,20,000 per month. Nurses in major cities save less due to higher rent, but still substantially more than comparable Indian nursing salaries.
Q19 Is Germany safe for Indian nurses, especially women?
Yes — Germany is consistently ranked among the top 20 safest countries in the world. Women living alone, commuting after night shifts, and walking in city centres is completely normal daily life for nurses in Germany. Emergency numbers: 112 (ambulance/fire) and 110 (police).
Q20 Will I find Indian food in Germany?
Yes — Indian grocery stores exist in every major German city. Dal, rice, atta, all spices, paneer, and ready masalas are available. Most Indian nurses cook at home regularly. Indian restaurants are also present in all cities.
