The Photo - Why It Matters

Including a professional photo is standard practice in Germany. A missing photo can feel incomplete or unexplained to German employers.

📸 Photo Standard

A phone selfie or a photo cropped from a group picture is immediately visible as unprofessional. Take a proper photo in front of a plain wall with good natural light - smart clothing, slight natural expression, head and shoulders visible. 10 minutes well spent.

What Indian Candidates Typically Get Wrong

âś… Do

  • Write the entire document in German
  • Include a professional photo (top right corner)
  • Include ALL work experience - including gap year work, tutoring, family business
  • List your B2 certificate with exam body and date
  • Sign the document at the bottom
  • Keep it to 1 page for young candidates

❌ Don't

  • Write it in English
  • Include a career objective section
  • Use vague skills ("team player," "good communicator")
  • Submit without a signature
  • Overstate your German level
  • Stretch it to 2 pages if content doesn't justify it

The Motivationsschreiben - What Goes with the CV

Every Ausbildung application includes both a Lebenslauf and a Motivationsschreiben (cover letter) - a 3–4 paragraph letter in German explaining:

  • Why you want to do Ausbildung in this specific sector
  • Why you want to train specifically with this employer
  • What you bring from your background and experience
  • What you aim to achieve through the Ausbildung

A generic letter that could apply to any employer is ineffective - German employers can tell immediately if it has not been written specifically for them.

âś… JSJ Profile Support

JSJ prepares both the Lebenslauf and Motivationsschreiben as part of the programme. Candidates work with JSJ counsellors to build a profile that reflects their genuine background and motivation in the format German employers expect. This is personalised preparation, not a template.

The Bottom Line

Your Lebenslauf is the first impression you make on a German employer who does not know you and has no obligation to give you an interview. A well-structured, German-standard, honest, and specific Lebenslauf opens doors. A generic, incorrectly formatted, or English-language Lebenslauf closes them.

🎯 JSJ Track Record

Every candidate who has started their Germany journey through Jet Set Jobs and Destination Germany had their Lebenslauf and Motivationsschreiben prepared with JSJ's guidance. The profile you present to a German employer is a reflection of the programme you came through - and JSJ takes that seriously.
